100 Years of Edward Gorey

Every artistic legacy carries a story worth continuing. At 4AP, we believe in accompanying those stories, helping them evolve through collaboration, design, and imagination.
This year, as the world celebrates the centennial of Edward Gorey’s birth, his intricate worlds feel as vivid as ever. Gorey’s work has always stood apart: his pen-and-ink drawings reveal both elegance and unease, his humor is sharp yet tender, and his storytelling invites us into places where whimsy and melancholy coexist.
The Edward Gorey Charitable Trust, with whom we’ve had the pleasure of working closely, continues to protect and expand this legacy. Beyond preserving his artistic and literary works, the Trust also supports causes close to Gorey’s heart, particularly animal welfare, a cornerstone of his life and philanthropy.
This year and more specifically this month, Gorey’s legacy expands through cultural events and collaborations: Phantasmagoria XVI reimagines his characters on stage; the Society of Illustrators presents Something Else Entirely, a major exhibition; and Weldon Owen releases Uneasy Elixirs: 50 Curious Cocktails Inspired by the Works of Edward Gorey.
Looking ahead, Gorey’s work will be seen in collaboration through upcoming partnerships with Heretic Parfum, Flipboku, and notNeutral, translating his spirit into scent and design. These projects reimagine his world, inviting us to live with art in new, intimate ways, to touch, gift, and experience it as part of our daily life.
