Leslie Sardinias' art works are framed within chromatic modernism, abstract symbolism, marine biology, tropicalism, and popular culture. A sense of adventure calls the viewer to his work as Sardinias presents multiple routes to experiencing the world through his travels. These include circumstantial advenures, routes that relate to his place of origin, and his chosen routes as future destinations.
His works are created in situ, that is, the artist connects the real physical space with the creativity that results from the vital experience of the same. As a result Leslie Sardinias invites us to join his pictorial chronicles of the world.
The art work of Leslie Sardinias groups images in series that give title and concept to the topic to be discussed: they are maps of symbolic and abstract landscapes that reflect on the existential process of the artist. The result is an introspective, colourful and contemplative work on the environment that surrounds him and the experience he has undergone.
Born in 1974, Leslie graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Havana (1994), and from Parsons The New School for Design in New York (2000) with a Master’s degree in Design and Animation. His work has been exhibited around the world at institutions like the National Museum of Fine Arts of Havana and the Florence Biennale. It can also be found in many prominent collections, including the Spanish Royal Collection and the Melia Cohiba Collection.
